CNET is reporting the same ‘hack’ in the Pepsi-iTunes giveaway that was highlighted last year, mainly by bloggers. Essentially, the underside of the Pepsi bottle cap tells you whether you have won or not. By tilting the bottle, you can see whether it contains a free iTunes song before you buy it.
Well this year, the same ‘hack’ works. Surely this is not oversight on behalf of Pepsi and Apple iTunes? I’d imagine the number of bottles hacked is relatively small in comparison to the free publicity and cachet the hack gives to the competition. Publicity, I’m quite happy to fuel in return for a good marketing ploy.
